Alternatively carry on north to Warwickshire for first overnight at Ettington Park Hotel, south of Stratford upon Avon.
Day 2
After spending the first part of the morning meandering gently through the Cotswold villages of Chipping Camden and Moreton in Marsh, you could spend the latter part of the morning in William Shakespeare's hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon. After a visit to the town you could then head north-west towards Shropshire and Shrewsbury, following the Welsh border north to the medieval city of Chester – your destination for the night.
Overnight: The Chester Grosvenor Hotel.
Day 3
Exploring the walled city of Chester in the morning your route could then lead you under the River Mersey to Liverpool, once a major shipping port on the west coast of Britain. Liverpool has two magnificent cathedrals, both of which are worth visiting. The Anglican cathedral is the largest cathedral in the UK, completed in the 1970s. Continuing north to the Lakes you will reach this beautiful corner of England in about 2 hours. The southern approach takes you along the shore of Lake Windermere to Ambleside, over the famous Kirkstone Pass to the quaint village of Pooley Bridge on the shore of Lake Ullswater.

Day 5
Today you will cross the border in to bonnie Scotland. Once over the border you could head along the Solway coast, north to Dumfries and then through the majestic Dalveen Pass before continuing into Scotland's largest city, Glasgow. Full of exquisite Victorian architecture Glasgow has many interesting buildings and galleries that are worth exploring. Your final destination tonight is Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens, a sumptuous and luxurious hotel in the west end of the city close to the university and the Botanic Gardens.

Day 6
Today after spending the morning in Glasgow your trip will take you north along the 'bonnie banks' of Loch Lomond and then up across Rannoch Moor, a vast plateau over 1000 feet above sea level. From here you descend into the magnificent and inspiring Glencoe, site of the famous massacre of 1682. The beautiful shores of Loch Linnie appear shortly and you then follow the shore line to Fort William and Inverlochy Castle, both of which lie in the shadow of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis.

Day 7
The rugged mountains of the Western Highlands are on today's agenda and after checking out you could perhaps take a trip in the gondola which climbs one of the local mountains before starting upon the 'Road to the Isles' and the Isle of Skye.
